Project Runway Rant
I don't watch reality shows, in general, but Project Runway--I was seduced by Heidi and Tim and my love of clothes (on other people--it's true that I'm mostly found wearing thrift store tees and yoga pants). And most of the time even with Project Runway I don't get too concerned about who wins and who loses. But I have to say that I do not approve of Gretchen! I thought her clothes looked like stuff you can buy at Gap or Macy's. You can see all three finalists' collections here--Andy on top, Gretchen the winner in the middle, and Mondo, the favorite, on the bottom. Mondo has such a cool eye for pattern and color and line.
Sounded like the woman from Marie Claire carried the day. Well, Marie Claire pays for it, I guess. But Heidi knew better (and argued for Mondo).

But what weirded me more, was that discussion between Heidi and Michael Kors. Why he thought fashion should be not fantasy, or innovative, I'll never understand. Nothing Gretchen does is fantasy or innovative. It's well constructed and serviceable, but certainly not forward thinking. I don't know why Kors thought her design was the future of fashion. Just because the economy is in the tank, doesn't mean fashion has to be.
I do think Andy's collection would have shown better if he'd been after Mondo. His seemed boring and less memorable because of Mondo's wow factor. That's what you remembered, rather than Andy's more soft showing. The one woven blouse front was fantastic.
I still can't believe Mondo didn't win.
